Entry 2: How Cirtical Thinking is Important in My Life
This week in class, we learned about the concept of critical thinking, or assessing claims and making judgments based on well supported evidence, according to the text book. In other words, I would say thinking critically is taking the steps to come to a conclusion based on researched evidence rather than bias. We also learned about a few different types of bias that people commonly use, consciously or subconsciously, that affect their judgment and decision making on many things in life. I think thinking critically in life is a very important skill to have, because it can help me make the right decisions with school, money, career, political beliefs, and other people. Personally, I think remembering to think critically is important because it can be difficult sometimes. It is not the easy way when going about making decisions. It is usually easier to believe what I want to believe, rather than taking the time to look at evidence objectively, and make a well though out and unbiased decision. Like the examples in the textbook, thinking critically is important because if you don't, it can lead to making mistakes with money or even your health. Thinking critically applies to me specifically because I am naturally a very "go with the flow" type of person so I tend to not think through things very well, and learning about the different types of bias helped me to realize that thinking critically can help me in my academic career. I can use critical thinking to take time to research, explore options, plan, and make decisions in my academics that will benefit me later in my career and in life.
