Unit 2 Application Reflection: Study Strats

  1. Some of the study strategies I have used and use currently are avoiding distractions and multitasking while studying and working on assignments because I know that I am easily distracted and will not retain the information or focus if I am trying to multitask. I will stay off my phone until the assignment is complete and only focus on one assignment at a time. Another tactic I have recently implemented into my study strategies is planning and making a schedule of things I need to get done a few days before and when I should do them to get everything done on time without having to be stressed. I had been staying up too late getting assignments done because I was not expecting the work load that I would have, and then I would be stressed and not able to focus during the day. The schedule has helped me tremendously to get things done early and have more sleep and free time.

  2. A strength that I believe I have in my study habits is active listening and note taking. I have made an effort to listen actively while someone is teaching material and also take good notes about things I will need to remember. I use this study habit to help develop an understanding of the meaning of something while it is being taught and creating a memory of that lecture. Then, I am able to clearly remember it later on. I also take notes and practice after being taught something and this also helps me to develop a method of doing a problem or something like that.

  3. Some areas of study habits that I would like to grow in are

-Generating your own test questions to quiz yourself on.

-Doing practice questions shown in the book.

-Reviewing lecture notes shortly after class.

I can practice these habits by making time to create my own questions to quiz myself and do practice questions. I often convince myself I already know how to do the questions because I don’t want to go to the effort to practice and quiz myself, because I honestly don’t wanna do the extra work on top of everything else (this is bad). However, I know that this would help me perform better on my tests so I am going to try to develop this habit. I have an EF test this week and I have set a goal that I want to get a 97 and then I will give myself a celebration. In order to do this, I will implement these study habits into my studying this week and so on and hopefully build a habit that becomes routine, and it will improve my grades!
